The SPF awards will be presented and announced during the session preceding the closing session, as indicated in the program. The winner must be present – in their absence, the award will not be presented.

IMPORTANT NOTE

To apply, documents must be compiled into a single PDF file and sent to geral@sociedadefisiologia.pt
Candidates may apply for different awards, but may only receive one award decided by the Scientific Committee.

Research Recognition Award

The SPF Research Excellence Award recognises outstanding research carried out by postdoctoral fellows who have submitted an abstract to the SPF meeting.

Eligibility

  • Be a member of the SPF
  • Be a fellow or have a postdoctoral career
  • Be the presenting author as first or last author in the abstract submission.

Applications (by email only) must include

  • Proposed PDF abstract
  • Letter from the candidate stating their eligibility for the award(s) they are applying for, their contribution to the research, the importance of the research contained in the abstract for the field, and a statement of the candidate’s research objectives.
  • Biosketch

Judging criteria

  • Excellence of scientific career, demonstrating consistency, evolution, and innovation in the fields of interest
  • Clarity and performance during the presentation and debate.
  • Study design and approach.
  • Relevant results obtained with quantitative and statistical comparisons, where applicable.
  • Originality and significance.

SUMMARY OF CONDITIONS

Prize: Diploma/Trophy and cash prize of €500.  The winner will also receive a complimentary invitation to the Society’s dinner the following year (valid for 1 year).

Application deadline: July 31st

Who can apply: SPF members with a postdoctoral position or equivalent, presenting any work. Selection for oral communication will be considered as an advantage.

Outstanding Postgraduate Trainee Award

The SPF Outstanding Postgraduate Trainee Award recognises trainees who are on a path of consistently meritorious contribution to the scientific areas represented here.

Eligibility

  • Be a member of the SPF.
  • Be a doctoral student (or equivalent) at an academic institution or in industry.
  • Be the presenting author

Applications (by email only) must include

  • Proposed PDF abstract
  • Letter from the candidate indicating relevant contributions to the research
  • Letter of support from the tutor/supervisor
  • Biosketch

Judging criteria

  • Quality of the abstract
  • Selection for oral presentation and podium performance
  • Potential to become an independent researcher.

SUMMARY OF CONDITIONS

Prize: Diploma/Trophy and cash prize of €250. The winner will also receive a free invitation to the Society’s dinner the following year (valid for 1 year).

The distinction may be applied to two other winners based outside the greater Lisbon district, who will receive a travel prize of up to €100.

Application deadline: 31 July

Who can apply: SPF members who are postgraduate students.

Best Poster Award

In recognition of the best poster presentations at SPF events. The final decision on the poster awards will be based on the quality of the research and the presentation of the poster in the presentation and discussion panels. In addition, candidates will be assessed on their ability to answer questions related to the research presented.

Eligibility

  • Be a member of the SPF or be sponsored by a member of the SPF.
  • Be the first author of a submitted abstract

Judging criteria

  • Quality of the abstract, with emphasis on context, objectives and research questions, design/methods, discussion, and conclusions
  • Clarity of poster presentation 
  • Ability to answer questions from the scientific committee

SUMMARY OF CONDITIONS

Prize: Diploma/Trophy. The winner will also receive a travel prize of up to €100 and a free invitation to the Society’s dinner the following year (valid for 1 year).
